As a liver tonic it has been in use for thousands of years. Modern research shows that St Mary's thistle has a truly remarkable ability to both regenerate damaged liver cells and to protect them from poisons. Antioxidant, bitter tonic, the seeds are cholagogue, and nourish the liver, gallbladder and spleen.
