Description
The motherwort herb is especially aligned with the healing of women - hence the name.
However, that's not to say it cannot be an extremely beneficial herb for men too. It was used by the Ancient Greeks to soothe anxiety in pregnant women and for what we now know as post-natal depression.
The Japanese see it as the herb of longevity and turn it into wine, Russians use 100 % vodka and make a potent tincture and the Ancient Greeks used motherwort to soothe anxiety in pregnant women and for what we now know as post-natal depression.
Motherwort is a mint variety (non aromatic and also related to skullcap) that is best taken whenever in doubt, in times of stress, anxiety, worry, or anytime child or adult needs a dose of calm. It is a fast reliever of menstrual cramps, menopausal symptoms and can be used to strengthen the uterus and improve vaginal elasticity.
And as good as it is for the uterus, it is for the heart. It has the ability to assist the growth of new heart vessels and improving the action of the heart. It can also be taken to soothe a broken heart, because Motherwort, like its name, can bring relief to all pains.
Common medicinal uses include: a cardiovascular tonic, to regulate menstruation, soothe menstrual cramps, relieve premenstrual tension and discomfort, to ease labor pains, to help the uterus relax and return to normal, as an anti-depressant, antispasmodic and nervine. Motherwort has a bitter taste.
